Blackburn Rovers recently extended the contract of two influential players –Liam Williamson andMatt Kilgallon – and managerGary Bowyer says that it is positive news for the club. Both players were out of contract at the end of the campaign, but the club now have extended their deals by one year. They will stay at Ewood Park until the summer of 2016. This is important news for Blackburn given that the experience provided by the duo will be key in a promotion challenge. During the 2014-15 season, Blackburn missed out on the play-off places only narrowly. They have been consistently making progress ever since the relegation from the top flight.
Just 11 points separated them from the final play-off spot andBowyer promises this gap to be narrowed next season when the club take advantage of any new signings. However, the manager will also have to contend with the loss of one of his key players. It is highly expected that striker Jordan Rhodes will be sold in the summer against the wishes of the manager and everyone at the club. This is due to persisting interest from Premier League clubs, who want to sign the 25-year-old. The Scotland striker has scored 21 goals in just 45 matches last season.
